Fife Redwings and Fife Phantoms travelled to Northern Ireland over the weekend to face their counterparts from Belfast Giants.

The Redwings were defeated by Belfast’s excellent U12 team but showed plenty of spirit to get to grips with the challenge they faced.

There were plenty of positives to take from the game, including the way the players conducted themselves in the face of a tough test. Luke Purves was the MVP.

The Phantoms were superb against the Giants’ 14 side, producing their best performance of the season. Three U12 players featured and gained some valuable ice time.

Ryan Venters topped the scoring with four goals, while Harry Hudson’s hat-trick earned him the MVP prize.

The trip was also an opportunity for players, parents and staff to watch Fife Flyers in action against the Giants in the Elite League.

Head coach Tom Coolen and Kirkcaldy Kestrels player James Spence generously took time out to meet the players.

The game was particularly noteworthy for the Kestrels forward, as he scored his first goal in the EIHL and collected the MVP award.

The club’s staff were delighted with how the trip went. Being part of a club has its ups and downs, but when everyone comes together in this manner, it makes the rough times worthwhile.
