Kirkcaldy Kestrels missed the opportunity to stay in the top three in the Scottish National League after slipping to a 3-2 home defeat against Paisley Pirates.

James Spence put the Kestrels in front inside the first five minutes, but the Pirates levelled the game before the end of the opening period.

Finley King restored the home side’s advantage midway through the second session, but two quickfire goals edged the Braehead-based team back in front.

Despite creating plenty of chances in the final period, the Kestrels were unable to find a way past Pirates netminder Callum Donaghy.

With Dundee Rockets recording two impressive road victories over the weekend, Steven Wishart’s side have dropped to fourth in the standings.

They will bid to return to winning ways at Kilmarnock Thunder on Saturday.
