Kirkcaldy Kestrels came up agonisingly short against Aberdeen Lynx in the Scottish National League play-off final yesterday.

A thrilling 3-2 victory over league champions Dundee Rockets on Saturday fired the Kestrels into a showdown with Lynx.

Aberdeen defeated Edinburgh Capitals 8-1 in their last four tie, setting up a clash between the two bottom seeds in the play-offs.

Steven Wishart’s side led 2-1 at the second buzzer courtesy of goals by Joe Somerville and Josh Saunders, but they were unable to hold onto their advantage.

Lynx battled back in the final period, scoring twice to secure a 3-2 win.

The Kestrels have another shot at winning silverware when they face the Rockets in the Scottish Cup final at Dundee Ice Arena on Saturday (7.30 pm).
