Fife Flames produced a stunning display at Lanarkshire Lightning to secure the Scottish U16 League championship on Sunday.

Lightning had been defeated just twice this season, but the Flames swept them aside on their way to an emphatic 8-1 victory.

Callum McLaren (3), Caiden Forbes (2), CJ Giannandrea, Murray Whyte and Ross McEwan were on target for the Flames.

The first-named trio used their experience to lead by example, which helped the younger players in the squad throughout the contest.

Netminder Aaron Guild turned away 20 of the 21 shots he faced on his way to deservedly picking up the MVP award.

The youngster has produced a series of outstanding performances this season, vindicating the decision to move him up from the U14 team.

Despite some off-ice medical issues, he has played a key role to justify his place on a championship-winning roster.

The Flames have two league games remaining this season and will be eager to complete a clean sweep of victories.

Fife Falcons remain on course to win the Scottish U19 League title despite suffering a mini-setback on Friday night.

The Falcons trailed Lightning Pirates 2-1 heading into the final period but managed to edge ahead with just over four minutes remaining.

However, a goal four seconds from the end of the game made it 3-3 and scuppered the Falcon’s hopes of victory. Jake Blyth was the MVP.

Fife Redwings acquitted themselves well against Belfast Giants U12 but were ultimately on the wrong end of the scoreline.

The players battled to the end and can be proud of their efforts and development, given they are such a young team. Mason Kelly picked up the MVP award.

Fife Phantoms had better luck against the Giants’ U14 team, with all three lines contributing well to an emphatic victory. Ben Spears was the MVP.
